If the saying “Qadsia club and championship are two inseparable entities” is
applied partially on the club then it is completely applied on the
volleyball team in the club.
This game has achieved the greatest accomplishments and carved the name of
the Qadsia club on all the volleyball championships. Since the mid
seventies, the club started drawing a clear policy which depends on
rehabilitating the players’ levels in all the stages in order for all the
teams to stay strong and homogeneous.
Many national, Arab and foreign trainers and some of the club’s members and
directors worked on implementing this policy.
The first team’s championships were not restricted to local championships
but rather won and for several seasons in the cooperation council clubs’
championships and in the Arab and Asian clubs’ championships.
Regarding volleyball, Qadsia club is considered the basis of all the
national teams due its members’ status and the good technical
qualifications, which they receive from the club.
The starting off: before the basketball federation and the volleyball
federation split up the club faced many difficulties some of which were the
non-availability of the required number of players, some difficulties in
communications in addition to non-availability of a volleyball terrain.
Some of the old trainers in the Qadsia club are:
Fahme al Khadra, Akram Fihan, Ahmad al Ojail, Othman al Tamimi, Abed al
Rahman al Sanee, Saleh al Rashed,Mouhamad Halil, Naser al Zankawi and
Ghassan Haddad.
At first the teams’ results were simple and that is for the participation of
the players in basketball, handball and volleyball tournaments in addition
to the absence of a specialized trainer. Moreover, since the results were
simple at that time, the board of directors assigned Hamad al Sanee to train
the team after he had stopped playing. However the team was not able to win
in the championship tournament this what lead to the increase in the club’s
efforts towards this game and that is by looking for the best players.
These efforts were crowned with the first victory for the youth team season
68/69.
It is to be noted that the national trainer Othman Tamimi trained this team.
The results were not satisfactory to fulfill the youngsters’ dreams,
however the club formed a good team for the youth, which it depended on to,
achieve more than one championship in the second decade.
The launch in the seventies: In the early seventies the club’s board of
directors’ main aim was to upgrade the volleyball team’s level. The club
signed a contract with the Egyptian trainer Nabil Koteb. The club’s board
admired his training and technique which he had performed on the Egyptian
team that participated in the Arab championship which took place in Kuwait,
for that reason they signed a contract with him. The game started taking the
right track after Nabil Koteb took over the training job.
The team won its first championship in the club’s history season 74/75 and
during that period Abed al Houssein was the trainer.
Afterwards the club assigned a Russian trainer Platanov who is considered
one of the best trainers in the world. This trainer was able to upgrade the
team’s level. He further formed a homogeneous and strong team, which plays
in a developed way.
Although the team had achieved good results in the first part of the general
tournament, it faced some administrative problems one of which was, the
withdrawal due to the increase in tension, thus leading to the drop of the
teams position from the first to the second place in seasons 75\76.
The Russian trainer was unable to continue his training due to the fact that
his services were needed in the Soviet Union for training their teams.
Although a large number of the Qadsia members participated in the national
team, the latter did not win for three consecutive seasons. During this
season several trainers of different nationalities (Korean, Hungarian, and
Chinese) trained this team.
Upon his arrival from abroad and after signing a contract with the national
trainer Abed al Ridah Houssein, the Qadsia club won the championship
tournament and the cup season 79\80.
Ladies’ team: Qadsia was the first club that gave the Kuwaiti women the
chance to exercise a sport’s activity. Qadsia club started forming the
first volleyball team for women in Kuwait. In addition to that it provided
all the needed facilities (trainer and his assistant a volleyball terrain
were they can exercise this sport in specified times). This team won the
first place during seasons 75\76 and won the championship tournament and cup
in four consecutive seasons 76\77, 77\78,78\79.
The national trainer Abed al Rida Houssein trained the ladies team.
Championships in the eighties: the Qadsia started monopolizing the
federation championships in all the sports’ seasons. The national trainer
Abed al Rida Houssein trained this team season 79 till season 83.
Afterwards the club signed a contract with the Korean Ju Yong Sun.
The first team appeared in a very good technical level were it was able to
participate in the Gulf Cooperation Council Championships and in the Arab
champions clubs’ championships.
The team won:
- The second, third, fifth and sixth Gulf championship.
- The second place in the first championship year 80,the fourth championship
year 85, the seventh championship year 88 and the third championship year
89.
Regarding the club’s participation in the Arab championship, the team had
won the third place in the years 82-84-87 in the tournaments that took place
in Morocco, Kuwait and Jordan.
The team also won the fifth place in the Arab tournament for the champions’
clubs, which took place in Libya.
Qadsia volleyball team participated in the international championship, which
took place in Japan due to the fact that the latter is considered the
champion of the volleyball game in the Gulf region.
This decade is considered the volleyball’s golden era were the prior Board
of Directors took care of the youth in order to provide the first team with
good members. The team was trained under the supervision of trainers from
different nationalities (Chinese, Hungarian, and Cuban).
