The Qadsia club is considered the pioneer of basketball and the sponsor of
all national teams. Qadsia is considered the number one club in the championship
tournaments and cup.
The game was established in the late fifties were the old players in
“Jazeerah” played a role in setting some strong basis for the basketball
game in the Qadsia year 1960.
These players encouraged others to participate in this team. In additions
to that they continued on the training sessions of the team which took place
in the school’s hall. The national trainer Abdullah Saleh used to train
this team, afterwards the Arab trainer Mahmoud Ramadan took over.
Then when the Qadsia club changed its place to were it is currently situated
and after the construction of the first covered terrain in the history of
Kuwait the concerns towards basketball and volleyball games increased. The
seventies is considered an important period in the history of basketball
were the club had signed a contract with the Yugoslavian trainer Skinjeh
Drajan who is considered one of the trainers that had a positive effect on
the basketball game and that is by introducing a new style in training.
Tchoui and the transfer to the Asian school: Afterwards the club signed a
contract with the southern Korean trainer Tchoui and the training was
transferred to the Asian school. Tchoui had a great impact in that he set
some strong basis for the basketball game in the Qadsia club which in turn
lead the club to dominate over most of the championships for more then ten
years.
Basketball for women: Qadsia club was the first to give this sport an
importance in Kuwait.
The women basketball team was provided with all the needed facilities until
the latter broke up due to the carelessness of the other sporting clubs.
Qadsia club started taking care of the women sports in 1974 when it formed
the first basketball team and provided it with all the needed tools, terrain
and an administrative and training staff. For that reason it is normal for
the Qadsia club to dominate over the women basketball championships
considering that it is the first and oldest teams.
During the eighties and the domination over the championships: During the
eighties the American schools dominated over the training techniques in the
club.
During the nineties and the period after the outrageous Iraqi invasion: Due
to the Iraqi outrageous aggression on Kuwait and the oppressive occupation
of our beloved country, the sporting clubs and its teams faced a lot of
problems due to the damages caused by these aggressions and the
psychological factors which the Kuwaiti families had faced concerning the
martyrs and the detained ones. However we were able to overcome all these
problems and difficulties. After the liberation of Maymoun, the Qadsia club
participated in the Governorates’ championships for the martyrs’ cup. This
event was directed by the basketball federation. A number of basketball
stars from Egypt and Syria participated in this championship. The Houli
governorate team which included all the Qadsia players was able to win the
championship cup.
